Snyder Family
The Snyder Family
When the Snyder Family asked me to photograph their family during their visit out here from the St. Louis area, I was probably as ecstatic for them as I was for myself. What a fantastic idea! Attention Midwestern families: if you take a trip to Colorado, why not knock out your family photos while you’re here as well? Think about it – How sweet would it be to have professional portraits of your family hanging on your walls with MOUNTAINS IN THE BACKGROUND??
I have to say, coming from the Midwest, it’s waaaay more exciting photographing families outside here in Colorado. 🙂 I can’t get over how close we are to the mountains!! They add so much “wow” to every photo! Even the colors of the rocks and trees. They just take everything up a notch.
Ok, enough about me being thrilled to be a photographer in Colorado.
I present to you, the Snyder Family –
A Bit of Backstory
Have you ever met people where you instantly felt at home with them? Like, their warmth and openness is so strong that you felt like you could go away on a weekend vacation with them and have a relaxing blast? Does that makes sense? Well, maybe not the phrase “relaxing blast,” but that kind of connection? I feel that way about the Snyder Family.
Their son BT has been in my sister Katie’s life since grade school. He was even her guest at my wedding! Speaking of my wedding, even back in 2007, the Snyder Family was treating me like family. I hadn’t even met them, and they graciously offered for my out-of-town wedding guests to stay at their home. How sweet is that??!
But anyway, back to the guy in the middle. He and my sister live in Longmont, Colorado. A true Snyder, BT offered his home for my husband Nick and I (and our dog Max) to stay at when we first moved here in October of 2014. Because our apartment wasn’t going to be available before Nick’s start date for work, we took him up on the offer and stayed with him for 3 weeks. How generous is that?! I still can’t put into words how much that meant to me.
It wasn’t until April of this year that I actually met his parents. After all of these years, I finally met the other 2/3 of the Snyder Family who had always welcomed me into their homes. Talk about some sweethearts!
Don’t let Margo’s crossed arms fool you. I made her do that. 🙂 I never saw a tough side of her once!
The Parent-Child Portraits
Call me a softy, but I loooooove portraits of children with each of their parents. No matter how old that child is. 😉
Plus, what mother wouldn’t feel like the proudest woman in the world to have a beautiful portrait taken with her child?
Margo should also be proud that she married a man who doesn’t mind being a model. And looks good doing it too! Thanks, David!
I think the only thing I adore just as much as a mother-child portrait is a father-child portrait. Makes my heart so happy. 🙂
The Dogs
Now, what would family photos in Colorado be without including the dogs?
I think what’s most fun about photographing families with their dogs is how spontaneous things can get. Not just from the dogs but the people too. I mean, who wouldn’t want to squeeze C-Bo’s big ole, soft head??
You KNOW a dog can’t take a hug without kissing back!
Kisses for everyone!
The Couple
What probably melts my heart more than anything is capturing the love between couples. Especially couples that have been together a long time. The adoration, the sparks, the genuine joy.
You can just feel it.
The Child
I believe that solo shots of the children are important too. Again, no matter the age.
Normally, I’m not big on photographing people straight-on to the camera. But I know BT well enough to confidently say that this is very much him. I think anyone who knows him would agree. The posture, the hands in the pockets, that exact smile. It’s BT all the way!
Back to the Family
Ahhh…I just love these…
They kinda rocked it, didn’t they?
A Few More Faves
As you can tell, I like to keep everyone nice and close. 🙂
And ready for hugs!!
You can just feel the love, can’t you?!
Back to the Mountains
The Snyder Family finished their Photography Session with me up at McIntosh Lake in Longmont, Colorado.
The sunset, the mountains, the lake…wow.
